Alpine Style, British Tradition
Kitzhof History
The Inn was built in 1958 by the original owner who had many children and wanted to name it “The Kids House”. He was inspired by the architecture of alpine lodges in Austria, where he had skied, and showcased this traditional style throughout the Inn. To match the Austrian look, he chose the name Kitzhof (it means “Goat’s [kids] House”). Many additions have been made to the building over the years but the original style has been maintained. The cedar log alpine construction is unique in our area and a big part of the secret behind our warm, relaxing atmosphere.
Your Hosts
Simon and Alison are the third owners and took over in September 2005 when they moved to Vermont from Oxfordshire, England. They bring warm European hospitality and style to the Kitzhof.
Simon has had a varied career collecting many skills and talents along the way, all of which culminate in running the Inn. Years of cooking experience ensure that your breakfast is wholesome and hearty. He also has handyman and building skills as well as web design and photography. Simon enjoys riding his Triumph Tiger, cycling, golf, tennis, skiing, snowshoeing, and photography – especially to commemorate our guests’ visits to The Kitzhof.
Alison is also a multi-talented professional. Before she became co-owner of the Kitzhof, she spent 22 years running her own successful business in London and Oxfordshire. She enjoys her book club, yoga, singing, skiing and cruising on her Triumph Bonneville T100.
